Andy Tanghe – Class of '95

To know Andy is to LOVE Andy. Andy was a 3-sport letter winner in the adaptive recreation program, where he played soccer, floor hockey and softball. Andy’s 1994 Floor hockey team was the State Championship winning team. Andy participated in Student Council and choir while at Edina. Andy continues his involvement with athletics now by participating in adaptive snowboarding, bowling and 5k races. Andy volunteers his time meeting with wounded soldiers at the VA, packing treat boxes for soldiers. And, he’s been a greeter and usher at OLG for over 20 years.

Casey Hankinson – Class of '94

Casey is the fourth member of the Hankinson family to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Casey was a standout athlete at EHS where he played hockey and baseball. He played both sports while attending the University of Minnesota. A right-winger with strong offensive skills, Casey played four seasons of hockey at the U where he earned the Elwin Doc Romnes Leadership award in both 1997 and 1998. Casey was drafted by the Blackhawks and made his NHL debut in the 2000-2001 season. Casey went on to play for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and continues to help scout for them.

Dave Nelson – Alpine Coach

The happiest man alive is how his own athletes have described Dave. Dave has been the Alpine coach since 1997 and has accumulated 10 state titles, and the respect of all of his athletes. Dave has won the Alpine Coach of the Year award three times which tells how much is admired and loved by his own teams. Team members truly believe that Dave wakes up every morning with the intention of making as many people smile that day as he can. Skiers know they’ve been successful when they get to the bottom of the hill and see Dave dancing and shouting for joy.

Dave Terwilliger – Class of '77

Seven is definitely Dave’s lucky number – he graduated in 1977 and earned 7 varsity letters while at Edina, participated in cross country, football and hockey. Dave went on to play hockey for Herb Brooks and the University of Minnesota. His team won the national championship in 1979. Dave’s contribution to the youth hockey programs in Edina may be even more impressive than his playing stats. He has coached hockey for 23 years, served as clinic coordinator, and served on the board of the EHA. Finally, Dave has been a volunteer Assistant coach to Curt Giles since 2006. He has been part of eight state tournament appearances and three State Championship teams.

Jack Wright – Booster

Believe it or not, there was a time when there wasn’t one hockey rink or organized youth hockey team in Edina. That was in the late 40s. In 1949, former Edina Athletic Director, Howard Merriman and High School Hockey coach, Ted Greer, asked Jack Wright if he would coach a team of kids that was not quite good enough to play for the high school team, but had the desire to play. No one loved hockey more than Jack. The teams’ first uniforms, which were just sweatshirts, were provided by Clancy Drug. The team went on to play in the Regional tournament wearing borrowed uniforms. Jack’s dedication to hockey earned him the distinction “The Father of Edina Park Board Hockey” and earned him a commendation from the Amateur Hockey Association. Jack traded in his hockey stick for golf clubs and moved to Arkansas, where he passed away in 2009. Jack is survived by his wife Mary and his two children Terri and John.

Jaime Gaard Chapman – Class of '03

Jaime was a dominant force on both the basketball court and the tennis court, earning a combined seven letters. She was named captain of both sports her senior year and was rewarded with the Athena Award for the most outstanding female athlete at Edina in 2003. Jaime’s basketball teams made state tournament appearances in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Jaime’ dominance on the tennis court continued earning her four State Championship tennis titles between 1999 and 2002. Jaime went on to play tennis at Gustavus Adolphus College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Jaime has been coaching possible future hall of famers as an Edina High School Girls basketball coach since 2007.

Tim Carlson – Class of '71

It was hard to stand out in the Carlson household when Tim was young, having to follow two brothers who have both been inducted into the Hall of Fame. However, Tim has two unique distinctions his brothers can’t claim – he never lost a Lake Conference hockey game during his three years as a varsity hockey player, and he is the first member of the class of 1971 to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. During Tim’s sophomore year in 1969 he played on the top line of the State Championship team, and brought home the trophy again in 1971. Tim’s teams were 71-4-4 during his three years at Edina, for a winning percentage of 90%. Tim went on to play at the U under Herb Brooks and helped bring home the U’s first National Championship in 1974.
